I spent $129 on a Tempur-Pedic Cloud pillow and it collapsed 3 inches in the first month. That's not me being careless—that's what happened. If you're thinking about buying one, read this first.
Why I Bought It (and the Mistake I Made)
I sleep on my side and my old pillow left my neck at a weird angle. The Cloud's marketing promised "pressure-relieving comfort" and "adaptive support." Sounded perfect. So I bought it without checking the return policy.
Mistake number one: I didn't read the fine print. The Cloud has a 90-night trial, but you have to keep the pillow for at least 30 days before returning. And they charge a $15 restocking fee. That's not in the big letters.
What the Marketing Doesn't Tell You
Size and Smell
First, this pillow is big. I measured it: 26x17x7 inches. If you're a stomach sleeper, it's too tall—your neck will crank. And the smell? That new Tempur smell lasted two weeks in my bedroom. My wife threatened to sleep on the couch.
Firmness and Break-In
The Cloud is medium-firm, but it's not fluffy. It's dense. The first few nights, my head felt like it was on a brick. I nearly returned it.
Then I found the trick: you have to break it in. I slept on it every night for two weeks, and it softened up. Not dramatically, but enough. If you want it softer faster, you can knead it like dough for 10 minutes a day. I did that every morning for a week, and it helped.
The Collapse Problem
Now the big one: after 30 nights, the pillow's loft dropped from 7 inches to about 4. I measured with a ruler. I'm not a giant—my head weighs maybe 12 pounds. That shouldn't flatten a pillow this expensive.
I contacted support. They said the pillow needs time to "settle." But 30 days? That felt like a cushion, not a cloud.
What You Should Do Instead
If you're set on Tempur-Pedic, read the tempur original pillow reviews first. That one's firmer and holds up better, but it also needs a break-in.
If you want something that works out of the box, look for a shredded latex or down alternative. My wife has a $40 down alt from Target that's held its shape for a year.
And whatever you buy, check the return policy before you click. I didn't, and I'm stuck with a flattened pillow.
Who Should Skip This Pillow
If you're a stomach sleeper, skip it. If you're over 180 pounds, skip it. If you want a pillow that's still plump after six months, skip it. For me, the first two weeks were great, then it went downhill. I'm back to my old pillow and my neck feels better.
