Homepop Parsons Dining Chair: The Seat Height I Got Wrong and the Fix

I'll say it straight: the Homepop Parsons dining chair looks great in photos and feels cheaper in person. But that's not why I'm writing this. I'm writing because I bought four, kept two, and the reason has nothing to do with fabric or legs. It's seat height.

The chair's seat sits at 19 inches. My table is 30 inches. That's 11 inches of drop, which sounds fine until you actually sit. My thighs pressed against the underside of the table. My knees hit the apron. I had to angle my legs sideways just to eat. For context, my last chairs had a 18.5-inch seat and I never thought about it. Half an inch made the difference.

If your table has an apron—that horizontal rail under the top—measure the clearance. My table's apron is 4 inches deep, leaving only 7 inches of leg room. That's cramped for anyone over 5'8". I'm 5'10". It didn't work.

I kept the two chairs at the ends of the table where there's no apron. They're fine there. The upholstered seat is firm, not plush, and the fabric (I got the gray linen blend) already shows slight pilling after three weeks of daily use. The frame is solid, no wobble, but the wood finish scratches easily—my cat's claws left marks on the back legs.

Assembly took 20 minutes per chair. The bolts lined up, no stripped threads. The instruction sheet was clear. That's rare.

If you're between two chair heights, go shorter. You can always add a seat cushion, but you can't make a too-tall chair shorter without cutting wood. Also, check your table's clearance before ordering. I didn't, and I paid return shipping on two chairs—$40 total.

Bottom line: the Homepop chair is okay for the price, but only if your table allows it. Measure first.

I'm still using the two chairs, but I'm already looking at replacements for the other two. Probably something with a shorter seat.
