NeoAir Mattress: What $500 vs $1,500 Actually Gets You

I spent 3 weeks sleeping on two NeoAir mattresses. One cost $500, the other $1,500. Same brand, same size. The difference? Let me break it down.

The $500 NeoAir

The budget model is a 10-inch all-foam mattress. It slept fine for the first week. Support was decent, but I noticed the edges sag when I sat on them. Not a dealbreaker, but if you're sharing the bed, you'll feel the dip.

It runs a bit warm. Not like a heater, but I woke up sweaty a couple nights. The cover feels like standard polyester. It's fine.

The $1,500 NeoAir

The expensive one is 12 inches, with a hybrid coil and foam construction. First night, I felt the difference. The edge support is solid. I sat on the corner, no sagging. The surface feels cooler too — probably the phase-change cover. My back felt better in the morning, but I can't say if that's the coils or just placebo.

Also, the $1,500 model handled my 210 lbs better. The $500 started to show a body impression after week two. Not a full crater, but noticeable.

What the Price Difference Actually Buys

  • Thickness: 10 vs 12 inches. Doesn't matter unless you're heavy or like a tall bed.
  • Edge support: The cheap one caves, the expensive one doesn't. If you sit on the edge to put on socks, you'll care.
  • Cooling: The luxury cover genuinely feels cooler. Not a huge deal, but if you sleep hot, worth it.
  • Durability: $1,500 held up better in 3 weeks. Longer term, I'd bet the coils last longer.

The Verdict (Sort Of)

If you're on a budget, the $500 NeoAir works. If you're heavy, share the bed, or sleep hot, spend the extra. That's it.

I'm keeping the $1,500 model. My back thanks me. My wallet doesn't.
